There’s no shortage of spas in Penang, but Tower Spa offers something few others can match: treatment rooms with panoramic views across the island.
Located on the 67th floor of Komtar, the tallest building in Penang, Tower Spa combines sweeping vistas with a luxury spa experience in one of George Town’s most unique settings. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, planning a date day, or simply looking to indulge during your time in Penang, the promise of a massage overlooking the city skyline and beyond to Penang Hill is certainly appealing.
On Penang was provided with complimentary treatments at Tower Spa Penang in exchange for this honest review.
Arriving to Tower Spa Penang
Tower Spa Penang is open daily from 11am to 10pm.
Bookings are made via WhatsApp, and after confirming your appointment, the spa sends detailed instructions on how to reach the reception.
We took a Grab to Komtar and headed to Level 6, where the main ticket office for Komtar’s attractions is located. A member of staff met us beside the World’s Tallest Man Statue. As access to the lift is restricted, guests are personally escorted to the spa; a thoughtful touch that helps avoid any confusion within the vast Komtar complex.

The lift journey alone builds anticipation. When the doors open on the 67th floor, you’re greeted by truly spectacular views across Penang. The spa sits just below the Komtar Skybridge and one floor above the Observatory Deck, offering a unique perspective over Penang Hill, the coastline, and beyond.
And don’t worry about being rushed straight into your treatment. After check-in, guests are offered a welcome drink and hot towel in the reception area, providing plenty of time to soak up the views before the experience begins.

Our couple spa experience
We booked the Only You couple package (120 minutes), which includes a 10-minute Aromatic Sea Salt Foot Ritual, a 90-minute Signature Body Massage, and time afterwards to relax with refreshments.
In the changing area, guests are provided with robes and disposable underpants before treatments begin. We found the underpants comfortably sized (often a rarity in Southeast Asia), although the robes were on the smaller side and didn’t quite provide the coverage we would have preferred.
We were then led to our treatment room.
Although Tower Spa has separate men’s and women’s facilities, there are dedicated couple treatment rooms within the women’s section. Our room featured floor-to-ceiling windows looking over to Penang Hill.

The experience began with a warm foot soak infused with rose petals, accompanied by a gentle shoulder massage. For some reason, the chairs are positioned with their backs to the view. We suspect this is intentional for Instagrammers, but given the spectacular outlook across Penang, we couldn’t help but keep glancing over our shoulders. Fortunately, the views can still be enjoyed from an angle.

The Signature Body Massage was thorough and firmly delivered. Even selecting a standard pressure, we found the treatment noticeably stronger than many massages we’ve experienced elsewhere in Penang. Those who enjoy deep tissue techniques will likely appreciate the intensity, although guests preferring a lighter touch may wish to request a gentler pressure in advance.
One aspect that may divide opinion is that therapists wear gloves during the massage, something we’ve encountered at a couple of spas in Penang. While this comes down to personal preference, it does create a slightly different sensation compared with a traditional oil massage.
The treatment itself was relaxing and professionally delivered. One thing worth noting is the brightness of the treatment room. Many spas use soft, subdued lighting to create a cosy atmosphere, whereas Tower Spa’s floor-to-ceiling windows allow plenty of natural light to flood the space. This creates a brighter, more open feel than a typical spa treatment room. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it does ensure the views remain very much part of the experience.
After our treatment, refreshment lay waiting on a table in the reception area for us to enjoy those views again before we departed.

Final thoughts
Tower Spa Penang offers a spa experience unlike any other on the island. The breathtaking views from the 67th floor, attentive welcome, and a sprinkling of luxury create a memorable treat for visitors seeking something a little different.
While the spa’s greatest strength is undoubtedly its setting, the overall experience delivers a welcome sense of indulgence high above the city. There are certainly spas in Penang offering excellent treatments at lower price points, but Tower Spa is about more than the massage alone; it’s all about those views!
It’s also worth noting that Tower Spa offers packages that include access to a jacuzzi and sauna. Given the elevated location, we imagine the views from the jacuzzi would be particularly impressive at sunset.
